International Schools

Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire
– William Butler Yeats

We often think of the reason behind the growth of International schools in our country? In nearly every country in the world, International Schools are experiencing a huge boost in numbers.  In India, the International Schools present a dynamic learning environment and guarantee their students global awareness and academic expertise they needto gain admission to prestigious universities in India and abroad. Schools offering IGCSE syllabus have shot up almost five times in five years in the state of Karnataka. Today, parents realize the importance of developing international-mindedness and raising their children to be global citizens. Most importantly, the International qualifications prepare the students well for the next stage of education – be it national exams, other international education programmes or universities in India or overseas.Skills like critical thinking, communication, creativity, adaptive and positive behavior that enable students to deal with the demands and challenges of everyday are developed and thus prepare them for life.

The Cambridge IGCSE and Cambridge AS/A Levelhave flexibility over choice of subjects making it easy to integrate with other national curricula and systems. Cambridge Teacher Training and Professional Development Qualifications enhance teachers’ skills and thus result in improved outcomes for learners.Cambridge learners are confident, responsible, reflective, innovative and engaged. They are confident to work with their own ideas and exchange ideas with others. They are responsible for their actions and as reflective learners develop their ability to learn. They are equipped for new and future challenges and are engaged intellectually and socially.

Children must be taught how to think, not what to think

Margaret Mead

At International Centre for Excellence, a K- 12 Cambridge International School, besidesempowering our students with skills of modern technology, our sophisticated Labs, sprawling campus and sports facilities help students to tread on the path of exploration, create an aesthetic sense and lay emphasis on health and fitness. Gone are the days when parents look for spoon fed education where facts are shoved down the throats of children. At ICE we encourage students to think out of the box. We believe academic subjects and extra-curricular activities complement each other and develop a well-rounded, socially skilled, and healthier student.  Our effort is to create innovators and creative thinkers who can communicate clearly and work with others across nationalities.

HOW TO BE A GOOD FRIEND

There is a saying that goes “A friend in need is a friend indeed”. This proverb means that true friends are those who will always be there for us and will stick by us through thick and thin. I believe that every human being in this world must have friends in order to lead a happy life. In other words, nobody can survive in this complex world as a loner or a hermit crab.

Some of the essential qualities that a person needs to have in order to qualify as a true friend are:

  • Loyalty
  • Intelligence
  • Sensitivity
  • Humor
  • Honesty
  • Listening
  • Supportive
  • Generosity

Here is an example of what a friend did to me which is unforgettable:A friend of mine inspite of all the challenges she faces constantly listens to all my problems, motivates me to become independent and guides me in the right path to face the challenging situation. From this friendship, I have learnt to be there for my friends through thick and thin.

Hopefully, everyone is blessed with a good friend so the world becomes a more beautiful place to live in.

Help Kids P.I.C.K the right books

i-Pick1-blog

Reading should be easy and enjoyable- pick a book, settle in and be transported to new places. Reading for pleasure is important. Facilitators need to guide the students to choose the right book. If you know the child’s likes and interest and what they have already read, you can steer them towards a good book.

You can’t dislike a book until you have tried it! Expose students to different genre by taking them to the school library or a public library. Encourage them to try something first. In the past they might have tried only fantasy, and then you can suggest they look at mystery series. They might find that they love something outside their usual genre.

The secret to helping kids learn how to choose the right book is to remember P.I.C.K. It stands for Purpose, Interest, Comprehension and Know the words. Introduce the idea that we read for a purpose, even if the purpose is pure enjoyment. Then they need to find out the book that will interest them so that they can keep reading the whole time. Lastly, they need to think if they can understand what they are reading and know most of the words. Research shows that children learn to read by reading books that they can read fluently. Giving them a book above their reading level does nothing but frustrates them. Just right books provide the perfect balance so that readers can feel successful, enjoy reading and grow in reading abilities.

Read with your child, read to your child and have your child read to you. Reading is a wonderful way to keep young minds active and engaged.
